Default Dec 67

The back end of a Plane lowers and we land at Phu Bi air field ( If you call it a airfield) The plane was a Mini C-130 with 2 engines , It landed in what seemed to be 300 feet or so. Phu Bi was a Marine Base, Red dirt everywere (Rednecks also) . We would stay a couple days they take a walk westward below rt9 toward Loas.
(To be continued)

Default That plane

was probably a C-123 Provider or a Caribou. Or a C-130 Hybrid.

I had a civilian who worked for Philco/Ford ride with me to Dong Ha [which is next to r-9] He wanted to experence what it was like in a convoy. He said he'd never do that again and would fly next time. I can't remember if he meant chopper or if there was an air strip at Dong Ha or not.

Default Ron, I'm just curious

with most of the 3rd Marine division and a lot of the 1st division all in the Hue, Quang Tri, Dong Ha, Khe Shan area, Why would they have sent your small Army unit so far north. You must have been a long ways to the south around Chu Lie or even farther in the central Highlands at the time.

I'm not sure what your getting at. Out BN was at Baldy, I think and if you notice I said Chopper not choppers. We landed next to a duster on the north east side of Lang Vie. Later we would get more personnel but for awhile we were just a few. That being said, Sleeping next to that Duster was , with out a doubt, the best night sleep I had In Vietnam.

Default I think

he's getting at a lot of things. Now...what bar in Phu Bai did you beat up all the Marines. Inquiring minds want to know. How many Marines?

Default What I'm getting at

First of all not to say anything is not true but I spent most of 1968 in the Phu bi, Hue, Dong Ha area.
1. I wondered where the fight in a Phu Bi bar with Marines was. I didn't know of any bars there at the time. [Not much of any thing there, it wasn't Danang]
2. Why before Tet in 68 would the Army send a platoon size unit from the south up to the DMZ,Ka Sane, R-9 area when most of 2 Marine divisions were already there. Why would they land at the Phu Bi airport and then take a chopper up to R-9 instead of just landing at the airstrip 60 miles farther north at Dong Ha next to R-9.
