operation Hawthorne
The 101st was the instigater of this theam. Why did the 101 not have jungle fatiques in 66?
When I was with the 82nd in Dominican Republic we had Jungle fatiques , I traided a shirt to a Marine for a K-bar on the ride home. I have a picture of some 101 guys in 66 on operation Hawthorne, and what stands out is no Jungle fatiques , When did the Army give Jungle fatiques to troops in VN? |

Didn't the 101st just get to Nam in 1966. I know the 1st Cav didn't have Jungle Fatigues when they first got to Nam.

Ron,
Think it was late 66 that they started issuing "jungle fatigues". When the Cav went over in 65' they were in regular fatigues and boots. Frisco might know...he is an old guy and have a feeling when he went over it was in the old style fatigues. The Korean Unit I was with did not use jungle fatigues or jungle boots. Old American stye uniforms. Pack

We didn't get jungle fatigues and boots until late 66 early 67, and since we hauled conex containers filled with that $hit, we were one of the first to get them. Bob K

No Stamped on the connex container was "Property of the U.S. Army" Right above my shirt pocket was "U.S. Army" (Damn, what a coincidence) .....I saw a close relationship between me and that connex container (and its contents) like our sergeant always said "Don't be greedy, just take what you need" Bob K

In the rain season we got new cloths every two weeks, The rest of the time once a month. Once a month in Jungle and whats left of your uniform ain't worth burning. In the rain season, I couldn't tell the difference between new and old, they were both wet. Like Foest Gump said, Sometimes it would rain UP.

Dont think I ever hauled beer. Most of the time it was heavy equipment, but if there was room for container or two it was strapped on. Bob k
