11-22-2003
This may be a little different than Reeb.
03:58 11-23-03 Im at work sleeping, dreaming of next years Nascar. Alarm went off. We meet at the truck from different directions, (I have my own bedroom, cuass Im so important) I get the dispatch paper it says house fire. 04:00 we are out the door. Im looking in the map book for a hydrant location nearest the address. My driver pulls up to the house and Nothing, I report Engine 6 on ocation no fire/smoke showing the dispatch orders are for address 6822. The people that live in the house say that there son had called from hear and he lives at 6922, We move on down the street about 10 houses and as we pass the trees and stop in front of the house we are confronted by a histarical man and a fully invalved house fire. I have the 15 foot rule and my guys know it. ( if the flames are less than 15 foot through the roof, we are going in) The guy stops me and says he can't find his wife, Now I have to make a discion to send guys into a house fire that is just about to big, There is a rescue, we need a water supply that is 400 feet behind us cause we planed on a different address, what lines to pull, shut off utillities, and give assignments to the next arriveing engin that wont be hear for 8 min. I was a little busy. My guys took a line in the front door, I took a line into the garage area, My driver and a FNG ride-a-long draged 5" hose back the 400 feet to the hydrant. The two guys that went in the front door did a search and found the lady and took her out the back, The ambalance arrived and took care of the lady, (just smoke) WE then went to work on the fire, As the next arriving enging got there the whole block was filled with steam and smoke, and we were winning. another line was placed to protect exposures and a fan was set in the front door. About a half hour latter we (my crew) were sitting in the front yard and the fire was well under control, One of my guys turned and asked "what just happend" every thing was so fast. A couple hours latter back at the station, the FNG ride-a-long guy came up to me and shook my hand, he said he was proud to be part of my crew. Made me feel good. The ride-a-long guys are guys going through the fire acaodmy, firefighter wanna-bes. . All-in-all it worked out well. The lady was fine, we put the fire out. Iam sure glade I work with some fine people. I got pictuers if ya want to see. Ron |
