All Residents of Florida please read...
...we have to choose a new State Song.
Somebody has decided that "Way Down Upon the Suwanee River" is racist. So, go here, listen to the top three finalists, and vote for one. Thanks, Steve in Florida (where waterboarding is a SPORT) http://justsingflorida.org/

Swanee River is a beautiful song IMHO!
Stephen Foster was born(July 4, 1826 – January 13, 1864) in Lawrenceville, now part of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up as the youngest of ten children in a middle-class family that would eventually become near destitute after his father's fall into alcoholism. Foster's education included one month at college (Washington & Jefferson College) but little formal music training. Despite this, he published several songs before the age of twenty. His first, "Open Thy Lattice Love," appeared when he was 18.
He is known as the "father of American music," was the pre-eminent songwriter in the United States of the 19th century. His songs, such as "Oh! Susanna", "Camptown Races", "My Old Kentucky Home", "Old Black Joe", "Beautiful Dreamer" and "Old Folks at Home" ("Swanee River") remain popular over 150 years after their composition. for a nice rendition of Swanee River follow this link: http://www.floridamemory.com/Collect...sound_folk.cfm Now some revisionist of American History want to change history and wipe away all vestiges of pre 1861 US History. Slavery was not just a southern thing. Slaves helped build the City of New York and other major northern burgs to Include most of the Historical Buildings in DC. Slavery existed 80 yrs before the Confederacy but revisionist seem to forget the US Flag flew over slavery too. Then Before we were a Country England and Spain had over 100yrs of slavery on American soil. But no body is clamoring for the Union Jack and Spanish flag to come down in the Cities across the USA. My Brother in law lives in Glen Saint Mary,FL and he says Old Folks at home should stay the state song since they have already revised the lyrics and removed all the darkie references when it is performed in Schools and other events and its just "Way down upon the Swanee River" to most folks that enjoy good music. This revisionist movement won't just stop after Florida State adopts a new State Song they will go after the Cow Calvery, Hernado DeSoto and all the other pre 1861 history the revisionist don't agree with to diversify the State and remove pre 1861 history from Schools. "Merry Christmas from Dixie"

Thanks, Jer, for the info on Stephen Foster.
Born on July 4, 1826. Does that day ring any bells for anyone? That's the same DAY that former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died. I don't see the problem with the song either. It's not like we sing it at the beginning of every football game or something. The only time it's OFFICIALLY used is at the Governor's inaugeration, and then it's PLAYED by a band, not SUNG. And you're right...these shitwhistles ain't gonna stop until ALL of Southern history is sabotaged.

More Anti-Southern Bull Sh!t!
"They" want to change Marylands also which refers to "Northern Scum" in it's song. (Speaking of Northern Scum, sorry BOOger.....we just don't forget easily.)
I've given up on all this PC Revisionist crap. I wouldn't vote for any of those other stupid songs. Un-Reconstructed J.E.B. Pack
