Gimp,
Thankya for thinkin' of me up here. Yup, it looks like IVAN is gonna screw up some lives and property here in my part of the state. As I type this (Mon 10:30 PM) I'm about 90% completed with hurricane prep. And have contingency plans for whatever IVAN decides to do. My house is pretty solid... 4 x 4 frame with hurricane joints...been through a couple of strong category 3 'canes with no structural damage. Eloise in '75 and Opal in '95. So, if IVAN comes in as a cat 3 or less, I'll stay. Cat 4 or higher, I will get the hell out of dodge. Right now, IVAN is about the same intensity as CAMILLE of 1969. I'm sure many of us remember what CAMILLE did to Biloxi , Gulfport, and Pass Christian, Mississippi. Be concerned about me (and again I thank you), but do not worry about me. I'm too old a bunny and too wise to "go Darwin". If the hurricane gets me, it will be because my number is up, not because I do something stupid. We will know a more accurate landfall projection tomorrow.

Geez on the East Coast you have to look out for hurricanes, and snow storms, in the mid states you have to watch out for tornados, out here on the west coast we have to worry about earath quakes. I don't know what caused more destruction an earthquake or a hurricane. Both leave a path of devistation. Guess earthquakes are centralized, and not moving like a hurricane that damage more than one area.

Well, Hell's bells!
I STILL don't know if IVAN is gonna hit me, go to the west of me, or go to the east of me. Hurricane-force winds extend out over a hundred mile radius from the center. "Almost" only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades? Add hurricanes. As bad as I dont want this storm to come in here, I'm praying that New Orleans doesn't take a direct hit or a west side hit. That city is essentially below sea level. If surge or waves breach the levees, that will be one major catastrophe. I've been watching the local weather on TV. They are forecasting RAINY and WINDY for Thursday. The TV is now OFF. Update later.

Hope to goodness it doesn't hit New Orleans. The towm is 8 ft. below sea level and it they have a 20 ft tide it will make the town 30 ft deep in water. That's roughly up to the 3rd floor. All those thousands of coffins buried above ground would be floating down Burbon Street.

Spent Sunday and Monday
Pulling equipment out of south Georgia from our hunting lease. It is right on the Flint River and the river is already at the top of its banks from Francis. I now have my tractor and stuff in my driveway in Atlanta. The Flint river floods pretty easily and when hurricane Pearl came through about 10 years ago the general area was about 6 foot deep in water. They found several coffins that had washed up from flooded cemeterys. It was already raining there Monday afternoon when I left, the weather guys figure about a total of 20 - 30 inches of rain by this weekend.

Looks like we may be getting some of this one. We are usually protected by the mountains but this one is making an end run. During the last one we were inpressively clouded over and it drizzled for three or so days but not much else. 50 miles from here in Asheville, NC they had about 22" of rain. Much flooding. If anyone has ever been to the Biltmore house the Biltmore Village was under 20' of water.
