Well if you think about it there is allot of irony in this. They say this is the most powerful attack sub ever.

Carter might be a good humanitarian and a good person. but he did not have what it took to be a Commander In Cheif.

No hoax, the Nuke Attack Boat "Jimmy Carter" was launched 19 Feb 2005 in Groton, Conn. As per tradition a ship or boat will earn nic names along the way and I wonder what this new attack boat will pick up. Maybe the "Habana" or "Peanut", eh.

Given President Carters history maybe it is not so strange.

President Carter is the only U.S. president to qualify in submarines. He has long ties to the Navy and the submarine force. He is a 1946 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served as an officer aboard submarines while in uniform.

Jimmy Carter is the third and final submarine of the Seawolf class. As the most advanced submarine in the Seawolf class, she has built-in flexibility and an array of new warfighting features that enable her to prevail in any scenario and against any threat ? from beneath Artic ice to shallow water. Differentiating the Jimmy Carter from all other undersea vessels is its Multi-Mission Platform (MMP), which includes a 100-foot hull extension to enhance payload capability. The MMP enables Jimmy Carter to accommodate the advanced technology required to develop and test a new generation of weapons, sensors and undersea vehicles for naval special warfare, tactical surveillance and mine-warfare operations.

Jimmy Carter has a crew of approximately 130 officers, chiefs, and enlisted personnel. The 12,130-ton Jimmy Carter is 453 feet in length, has a beam of 40 feet, and can operate at more than 25 knots submerged. Jimmy Carter has joined the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
