On the CNN webpage today- they were saying that they might use pieces of the WTC in a new ship USS New York? That would be kind of inspirational.

Kenmar can't say that I can recall that specific one. The crew was first alerted to all 1MC announcements by the bos'un pipe after which he waould say "Now here this, all hands, etc. The one I remember the most is not repeatable in polite company. It went something like this "Now, here this, now here this, reveille, reveille, reveille, drop your ----- and grab your socks, reveille, reveille.

then of course there was:

The smoking lamp is out; This is a drill, this is a drill, General Quarters, General Quarters, all hands man your battle stations; All hands set the special sea detail; All hands to mooring Stations and many many others.

By the way, for all you army types. You can search for these ships easily. Just remember to use the letters USNS as a prefix during your search. Most of those vessels were not USS types. They were attack transports with the USNS designation. Searching for the Stewart with USS would pull up a DD (Destroyer) USNS brought up the correct Stewart.

Thanks,

Bill

That would be an appropiate use of the scrap... Make it a battle ship, then sail it over to the gulf and "Shell the Hell" out of Sadamn with it.

While your are on the subject,

Does anyone know anything about the USCG Cutter "Westwind"??

I got onto the site U.S. Naval Ships and it showed up, but couldnt come up with and relative info that I need for Karen.

(Her dad was on it ) in Iceland right before she was born.

Sorry to say , but died shortly after.

Supposedly it captured a bunch of Jap Navy, and the rest is history to her.

enough............

Default Westwind

Reeb,

Here is the main site for the Westwind with links to other related Westwind sites. She was one of 4 ice breakers known as the Wind class. Northwind, Southwind, Eastwind, Westwind. They were loaned to Russia for a while toward the end of WW2 and then returned to the Coast Guard.

Default Reunion Table for Westwind

reeb,

Tell Karen that there is a website www.fredsplace.org which is a great site for coasties. she can look up the Reunion table for the West Wind and post on it asking for anyone who may have known her Dad. Also there is a bulletin board where she can post info as well. Its a great site to try to find former coastguard personnel.

Here is the direct link to the Westwind reunion table:

http://www.fredsplace.org/reunion/cutter/3040.shtml

Good luck with the search.

Bill
