Default navy and coast guard...

does anyone reading these posts know
anything about the "us gen darby or
the u s s stewart" not sure about the
spelling of either of these, but got a ride
on both during the korean war...
troop ships i assume and crossing the
atlantic ocean...one was two stacks and one a single stack.
just curious...it's been 50 years for 1st trip.

Cooper Hewitt Museum is on 91st Street and around 5th Avenue. I am at 49th Street and Park. Not that far but it would be a long walk.

Default (Now hear this..."Clean sweep down Fore and Aft.......)

Here's the Mann,She took me to my first tour of Korea in 58 and brought me home from my second tour in 62. The first time I did a lot of paint scraping. The second time I was smarter and volunteered to honcho the other "volunteers" for night kitchen duty. Spent a lot of time on the fan deck watching mops tied to a rope getting cleaned.Anybody remember or know something aboutanother troop ship...David C Shanks? I was on it, ... I think in 1959 or 1960.

Thanks, just found a page on the Mann that says it was sold as scrap to Taiwan in 1987..

There may be people driving around in an old car that's has parts in it made from the Mann.... Kinda sad...

Tamaroa, I've had that phrase bouncing around in my head since this thread started and can't remember the whole thing. Can you or anyone post the complete announcement/command? I think itstarted with a whistle and then the "Now Hear this". The end was something about "Empty all butt kettles and ....." ?
