Default Timeline, September 20th

PREBELLUM:
September 20, 1945 (Year of the Rooster [At Dau]): Three days after a group calling itself the Committee of 17 September posts leaflets in Saigon that call for a general strike against the French (but reportedly also hold out hope of a possible negotiation with the British, calling on the populace to be calm), the British ban the Vietnamese press.

SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 20, 1962 (Year of the Tiger [Nham Dan]) (US Advisory): General Taylor reports his impressions of Vietnam during his recent trip.

September 20, 1964 (Year of the Dragon [Giap Thin]) (US Advisory): Montagnard uprising: By late evening, most of the insurgents have returned to their base camps. American SF A Detachment leaders at Bu Prang, Ban Don, and Buon Brieng persuade their Rhade units not to march on Ban Me Thuot, but those at Buon Sar Pa and Buon Mi Ga are less successful. The following six days will be spent in an uneasy calm during which leaders of both sides negotiate.

September 20, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): Near Ben Cat, US Army squad leader Sgt. Larry Pierce saves the lives of his men.

September 20, 1966 (Year of the Horse [Binh Ngo]) (US Counteroffensive Phase II): In Project Delta 12-66, B-52 SF Detachment returns for more reconnaissance patrolling in War Zone C and air strikes are used against several VC base facilities.

THIRD INDOCHINA WAR - OTHER:
September 20, 1977 (Year of the Snake [Dinh Ti]): Vietnam is admitted to the UN.

On this day in 1966 Sgt. Charles Blanco is KIA near Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen Province, SVN. He was a paratrooper serving in C co, 2/502 PIR, 101st Abn. Div.. He was a squad leader in my platoon. Sgt. Blanco had done a hitch in the Marines before becoming an Army paratrooper. At 25, he was an old man compared to alot of us. He was a good guy and a good leader. He had been wounded earlier in the year, as I recall. He was killed by small arms fire during a firefight that we were engaged in. He was from Philly, PA.
