The Nurses memorial statue in DC? It is behind and a little off to the left of the VN memorial and appears as if the nurses holding the soldier are looking at the wall. More sand storms

Default Sharon Lane maternity clinic

I was out in the field with 1/46th Infantry when we got word that a nurse had been killed in a rocket attack on the 312th. I know the 1/6 which had the immediate security duty at Chu Lai was affected, because the commanding General of the Americal at the time, Ramsey, took it personnally and demanded that security be further tightened to prevent rocket attacks. Most came from the "Rocket Pocket" a valley behind the main mountain range that overlooked Chu Lai. The 1/6 ran night patrols through there to interdict rocket fire. It cost casualties from hitting booby traps in the night, but the rocket attacks did get reduced.

Friends of Sharon lane, family and some vets are now operating a maternity clinic in Sharon's name in one of the villes on the outskirts of Chu Lai. The web site is http://www.sharonannlanefoundation.org/home.asp if you feel inclined to donate something.

Corpsmen and Nurses are all very special and to loose one helping another is pretty awful. My Dad's last wife (No. 4) was a Major in the Army during WWII. I liked her (name Apphia) she had photo's of her dancing with Micky Rooney at a USO and I impressed. She was one smart cookie and my Dad couldn't pull the wool over her eyes one bit.

As long as there are wars or conflicts we will always have the Corpsmen and Nurses to put us back together again.
