The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) charged Thursday retired Military General Jonathan Vance with obstruction of justice. In February, the CFNIS, a special unit within the Canadian Forces Military Police Group (CFMP), took charge of an investigation regarding alleged inappropriate behavior by General Vance toward two female subordinates. This obstruction of justice charge has been laid in connection with General Vance’s actions during the course of that investigation.

Refusing to release any specifics regarding the case, the Department of National Defense (DND) stated that CFNS will pursue the matter in civilian court “in the interest of justice with due regard to the limitations of the Military Justice System identified in the findings contained in the Third Independent Review Authority report.”

These charges are the latest in a series of developments regarding sexual misconduct in the Canadian military that led to Admiral Art McDonald’s resignation in February, after only six weeks in his new position. Admiral McDonald himself was General Vance’s successor. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who previously condemned such misconduct as reminiscent of “the old boys’ club,” declined to comment on the new charges against General Vance.

Personal note:

The old adage "no one is above the law" - seems even in Canada. These issues need to be brought before a court(s) - and justice served and to suffer the courts ruling in accordance to the Law's of the Land. Whatever Nation you belong to! Rank does not have the liberties to take advantage - of other's based - on the Codes both Civilian & of Military Justice. This includes any ranks! Those who suffer from such incidence's should be reported and they will be brought before the Civil and/or Military Courts (or both) for Judaification and punishment accordingly.

Regardless - they must be held accountable. Both Civil & Military Law's apply. Those that suffer from such acts (he or she ) will be - given justice in accordance to the power's of the law. Both Civil and Military (if applicable) - sometimes both may apply! Remember Rank has no privilege's - that allows one to break the Military Code and/or Civil Law's of the Land. Justice will be served.
