Boy that brings back memories. In 1966 I had been in the boonies for 3 and a half months straight. I was finally sent back to Pleiku to get some rest.
I was walking across the compound to our field kitchen to get some coffee. A bird chested, pompous major yelled to me, "Hey soldier! Go clean out my head!" Yeah, we do use swabbie talk too. I knew who he was. The dipsh!t had never left base camp. He had his own private sh!tter with toilet paper rolls, magazines and surrounded with a small tent. I took five gallons of diesel fuel, walked up (when he was out of sight) poured it all over the tent and threw in a match. As I was walking to the LZ to board a chopper to Kontum where I could get some real rest, I heard a loud WHOOSH! behind me. I just kept walking. I never did hear anymore about it. Well, except for the stories that circulated for months.

Funny thing is, they still use the same method. In the polictical correct military of the day, all details had to have an NCO supervising, so I to spent my fair share on this detail.

Memories...Had a guy that I dearly loved in my company named Doty,that got put on shit-burning detail for disciplainary reasons and he came to love the job and volunteered for it full time.He`d make a circle of honey buckets and sit smack-dab in the middle of it and smoke wacky-tabaccy all day long.He`d emerge,all covered in soot,giggling in the evening cause he got to spend another day inside the wire.
