Nat King Cole
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you
You're so like the lady with the mystic smile Is it only 'cause you're lonely they have blamed you? For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile? Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa? Or is this your way to hide a broken heart? Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep They just lie there and they die there Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa? Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art? Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa? Or is this your way to hide a broken heart? Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep They just lie there and they die there Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa? Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art? |

The first color TV I ever saw was in the window of a downtown furniture store. People would gather round, even in the foulest weather, to watch a show in color. My Aunt Mary got one that had a round tube in a diagonal frame so we "lost" the corners of the picture. We'd go over to her house on Sunday nights to watch Disney and Bonanza. Sometimes I think that TV did quite a lot to disrupt family and neighborhood life. Instead of sittin' out on the front porch on nice evenings and greeting people strolling by, we sit glued to the boob tube. I guess you can't compete with progress.

William Tell Overture for Lone Ranger
"A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty "Hi-Yo Silver!" The Lone Ranger rides again! Return with us now to those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear!"

Songs on the Radio or Record Player?
Can't pull that one out of the file. Being slightly older than quite a few on this site. Not as old as that Sparrow Gal but pretty close.
Songs from the big band era, one I thought was funny came from the thirties "When the moon shines over the cow shed I'll be meeting you at the kitchen n n door." First song I learned by heart "Jesus Loves Me This I know." We listened to Hardy Boys or some kind of mystry programs, big band music and Major league baseball game of the week, Mostly the Yankees beating up on someone. I have the old family Radio! We don't use it but I got it! Keith |

Radio, good old radio....
TV was around but not having a broadcast transmitter in the area made TV impractical. As just a pup kid I recall looking into the back of the radio and it looked like a city with all the electronic do-dads in there. I was convinced that the voices form the radio came from miniature people that lived in that city. I went so far as to grab a magnifying glass and study the glow from the vacuum tubes to see if I could see the little people, but no luck. But I?m lucky I didn?t electrocute myself because I really got into the investigation, I mean way in there.
I just flashed on something that my Ma really liked and that was Les Paul and Mary Ford and their steel guitar. I think that was a regular afternoon radio show and at the same time my Granddad was an Author Godfery nut but I didn?t hang out for that bit of business, nope. I had Keds and Jeans to wear out and ruin and the sooner the better in my book, LOL. Scamp

Delta Dawn one of my favorites sang by Tanya Tucker one of the early wild child's of country others have recorded it but she had this husky voice that made you believe the story...
Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on Could it be a faded rose from days gone by And did I hear you say he was a-meeting you here today To take you to his mansion in the sky She's forty-one and her daddy still calls her "baby" All the folks around Brownsville say she's crazy 'Cause she walks around town with a suitcase in her hand Looking for a mysterious dark-haired man In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on Then a man of low degree stood by her side And promised her he'd take her for his bride Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on Could it be a faded rose from days gone by And did I hear you say he was a-meeting you here today To take you to his mansion in the sky

If my life were to have a sound track one of the tracks would be Frank Sinatra's recording of
My Way... And now, the end is near; And so I face the final curtain. My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain. I've lived a life that's full. I've traveled each and ev'ry highway; And more, much more than this, I did it my way. Regrets, I've had a few; But then again, too few to mention. I did what I had to do And saw it through without exemption. I planned each charted course; Each careful step along the byway, But more, much more than this, I did it my way. Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew. But through it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall; And did it my way. I've loved, I've laughed and cried. I've had my fill; my share of losing. And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing. To think I did all that; And may I say - not in a shy way, " Oh no, oh no not me, I did it my way". For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught. To say the things he truly feels; And not the words of one who kneels. The record shows I took the blows - And did it my way!
