Air Force Aid Society awards members of 48th Medical Group

Payne 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Members of the 48th Medical Group took home another award this year, this time for a humorous, yet educational video. "Who's Watching!" a video created by Capt. Matthew Weber, 48th MDG group practice manager, and Capt. Amanda Weber, 48th MDG systems and orderly room flight commander, won the 59 second category in the 2012 Air Force Assistance Fund online video fundraising campaign. The video parodies the comedic Geico ad campaign where a stack of money with eyes follows people around. The Webers couldn't help but have a little fun while creating the commercial. "I like coming up with video ideas, but it's always easier to think of the [idea] than to shoot it," said Weber, "People ask you what you're doing when you come by with a camera and a stack of money with eyeballs on it." It wasn't just about making a fun video though, the Webers wanted to help the AFAF reach a wider audience as well. "It's a great program. The hardest part is that we do it every year so people see it as just a fundraising thing that always comes around," said Matthew Weber, "but if you can get a funny video out, it goes viral and people get to hear about it, it might reach the younger Airmen to keep the AFAF going." "I think it's important the young Airmen coming in understand that it's for us, Airmen that are currently on active duty, retirees, families, so it's a lot closer to home than other charities they could participate in," said Amanda Weber. The Webers are no rookies in this competition. Last year they created a video advertising for the AFAF charity at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., which received such a positive response it caught the attention of AFAF representatives and helped prompt the creation of this year's contest. "I was flattered that I inspired this contest this year and that they were really looking forward to my submission," said Matthew Weber, "It's great when you can help out such a worthwhile cause and have fun at the same time." This year's winning videos are featured on the AFAF YouTube channel and they will be played at the 9th Annual Air Force Charity Ball in Springfield, Va. The AFAF will also name a 2012 Air Force Aid Society educational grant after the winning teams in recognition of their efforts. The AFAF raises funds for charities supporting all members of the Air Force family. These charities include emergency financial aid, educational support, and a secure retirement home for Air Force members' widows or widowers in need.
