Default New Yankees Manager?

Friend of mine at work told me this morning that Joe Girardi is the new Yankees manager.

I'm not seeing anything in the news yet.

Anybody know?

I guess A-Rod ain't comin' back either.

Default RE: New Yankees Manager?

I was hoping for Tony Pena' but knew that the Yankees wouldn't trust the team to a rookie Manager. I met Tony when he played at Pittsburgh. Great guy. I have no inside info but believed Giriardi was it from the begining. I'll bet your buddies right, Steve.

Well, it's official.

Joe Girardi is the man.

Gonna take the Bombers to the Fall Classic.

How about Casey Stengel? He's the last manager of the Yankees I remember. I was a kid and stopped following baseball after i got booted from the Little League minor league. I was the worst player ever and a great disappointment to my very sports minded father.

My oldest daughter played softball in junior high and I encouraged her. I went to every game. They once had a game and no referees. They asked for people from the stands to officiate and I had to honestly admit that I did not know the rules for baseball/softball. I still don't.

Bring back Casey!!!

Yeah I figured it woudl be Giradi. Mattingly just didn't have any magagerial experiecne. Wonder if he will stay as Giradi's bench coach. Hope Penya stays on as 1stbase coach.
Covan- Ralph Houk (the major (major in WWII) was a good manger also.

Yo Rigger,

You got 'em!!

"Can't anybody here play this game?"
Casey Stengel, 1962 as Mets manager. A quote made up by Jimmy Breslin, but very Stengelest.

Notable quotes by Yogi Berra (Yogi-isms)...

As a general comment on baseball: "90% of the game is physical, the other half is mental."

On why he no longer went to a popular St. Louis restaurant: "Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded!"

On the attendance problem experienced by the Kansas City Athletics: "If the people don't want to come to the ballpark, how you gonna stop them?"

"It ain't over till it's over." - After Berra's 1973 Mets trailed the Chicago Cubs by 9½ games in the National League East; the Mets rallied to win the division title on the next-to-last day of the season.

When giving directions to his New Jersey home, which was equally accessible via two different routes: "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

On why, despite a lack of managerial experience, he thought he could be successful during his first year as a baseball manager: "You can observe a lot by watching."

Advice given to a young player who had unsuccessfully adopted the batting style of a well-known veteran: "If you can't imitate him, don't copy him."

On being the guest of honor at an awards banquet: "I'd like to thank all those who made this night necessary."

On the afternoon sun line and shadows that fell on left field at Yankee Stadium: "It gets late early out here."

When, during a batting slump, his manager told him to think about his approach: "You can't hit and think at the same time."

"If Babe Ruth were alive today, he'd turn over in his grave."

"You should always go to other people's funerals. Otherwise, they won't come to yours."

OH! I almost forgot...

"...and they pay you cash, which is just as good as money!"

It sure is true about the old Yankees. Even if you hated them, you had to love the likes of Maris, Mantle, Berra, Ford, Howard, Bobby Richardson, (got to spend an afternoon at the ballpark with him when he was a scout for the Yankees....great guy), and my favorite..Ralph Terry who in 1960 gave Bill Mazeroski a pitch to blast over Berra's head and over the clock in left field giving the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates game 7 of the World Series and defeating the undefeatable!

Also got to meet Yogi through his son Dale when Dale played in Pittsburgh. Yogi sent me an official, right from the clubhouse, Yankee Hat and Warm up Jacket after finding out about my 20 days with Pittsburgh. He was a great guy. The coat and hat now belong to the biggest Yankee fan I've ever met, my mechanics daughter. Geeze I love baseball but not like I used to. Things were just more clear back then.
