Default Dems Pleased By Saddam News

Democratic presidential candidates welcomed news Sunday of Saddam Hussein's capture, saying the arrest of Iraq's former dictator marked a great day for U.S. soldiers, the people of Iraq and of the world.

"I supported this effort in Iraq without regard for the political consequences because it was the right thing to do," Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt said in a statement from Sumter, S.C., where he was campaigning. "I still feel that way now, and today is a major step toward stabilizing Iraq and building a new democracy."

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, who supported the Iraq war but has become increasingly critical of its aftermath, also looked to the future.

"Capturing Saddam Hussein and ensuring that this brutal dictator will never return to power is an important step toward stabilizing Iraq for the Iraqis," Kerry said in a statement from Iowa.

He also urged the Bush administration to involve more U.S. allies in the rebuilding of Iraq and criticized a Pentagon memo that prohibited companies from countries that did not provide troops for the war from bidding on lucrative reconstruction contracts there.

"We need to share the burden, bring in other countries and make it clear to the world that Iraq belongs to the Iraqi people," Kerry said.

Former Gen. Wesley Clark said Saddam's arrest, Saturday night in a town several miles from his hometown of Tikrit, could help squelch the postwar violence.

"I hope this will see a diminishing in the violence against American soldiers in Iraq," Clark said as he arrived in the Netherlands. Clark was on his way to The Hague, to testify in the war crimes trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

Howard Dean, one of the most critical candidates of Mr. Bush's policy, said in West Palm Beach, Fla., that he expected the capture to change "the course of the occupation of Iraq."

"I think the first order of business is to say this is a great day ? I congratulate the Iraqi people ? and to say that this is a great day for both the American military and the American people and for the Iraqi people."

North Carolina Sen. John Edwards praised the U.S. forces in Iraq and called for greater involvement by U.S. allies in the country's reconstruction.

"We are all so proud of their efforts not just today, but every day as they work tirelessly to bring democracy to Iraq," Edwards said. "I hope President Bush will use this opportunity to chart a course in Iraq that will bring in our allies in a meaningful way to achieve a democratic and peaceful Iraq."

Asked for his reaction, Sen. Joe Lieberman said: "Praise the Lord."

"This is something that I have been working on with a lot of other people, advocating and praying for, for more than 12 years since the Gulf War of '91," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press." Lieberman also called it a "day of triumph and joy for anybody in the world who cares about freedom and human rights and peace."

But Carol Moseley Braun said that while it was good news, Saddam's arrest "does not change the fact that our troops remain in harm's way and we are no closer to bringing them home."

Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich said the United States must now focus on pulling out of Iraq. "The United States must reach out to the world community with a new plan to stabilize Iraq, bring U.N. peacekeepers in, and bring U.S. troops home," he said.

DAVID -

"Finally, both sides come together as Americans, one and all!"
Not Republicans, not Democrats, not Liberal, Not Conservative, and not even Moderate, but rather as Americans through and through!

To the troops who bore the brunt, to the people who shouldered the pain, to this nation that held it's ground, again and always, we are Americans, and still defiant in the face of a world that often seeks to divide and conquer!

On this day, a message was sent far and wide - "WE WILL NOT RETREAT SILENTLY INTO THE TWILIGHT! And on this day, again the spirits of patriots past smiled down upon us!

Default HARDCORE...

Your: "Finally, both sides come together..." would TRULY be nice, especially if such TRULY ever happened amongst perpetual political adversaries. The recent and typical political show-biz aside, I'm quite sure The People would benefit greatly if such a rarity would TRULY ever happen in this lifetime. Regardless Buddy,...don't hold your breath for such TRULY ever happening.

Still, doesn't David's thread title and thread flat-out state that only: "Dems" or viciously anti-Bush/Conservatism and/or The anti-WAR (Iraq War only) Crowd are the ONLY ones glad The Dictator has been captured?

No matter how many times you read or re-read "It", such always sounds so foreign or more so French, Russian or German,...than American to me. Hey,...even one whom rightfully and sensibly despizes most politics and politicos, can also have an opinion about public schnoorers. Besides,...most politicos make me laugh.

Default All Friends...

Together for 30 seconds, that?s a step in the right direction. Just think what we could accomplish if we could be together for an hour or the imposable one day. My guess is that a ?Be Nice? commo was issued from the DNC as the absence of a hate Bush caboose being so universal would be like the parting of the Red Sea if it were business as usual.

Default David et al

Hate to burst your collective bubbles, but the KumBaYah humming you heard was quickly followed with the Democrats adding, "Yeah, but........." The incessant hue and cry to involve more Allies, as if this will expedite the Iraqization of the land, is a thinly veiled whine of "let's bring our troops home," the plaintive cry of the submissive apologists. Scratch this in your clay tablets: the next thing issuing from the DNC and/or wannabees will be something or the order of "what have you done for us today, and why haven't you found Usama bin Laden?"

Question

GENTS -

The way that it is, the way that it could be, and the way that it should be, are indeed worlds appart! At times, we tend to be our own worse enemy! And until we definitely learn to pull together on certain critical issues, it will remain thus! (opinion)

Neil - As far as "DREAM ON", if this be my opiate, then so be it!

Out of dreams, oft-time comes affirmative action! And merely being politically correct or in any controlling majority of the time, does not dictate truth or right - "OR DOES IT?!"
