Default "CUT & RUN" Congress: Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

109th "CUT & RUN" Congress: Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

AN OP-ED GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Michael Winship
12/12/06

The 109th Congress is dead. Adjourned for good.

Hooray. Don't let the door bump your behinds on the way out.

These guys set new milestones for financial and moral hanky-panky, including 19 members under federal investigation and Friday's release of the House ethics report on the Mark Foley page scandal.

Sunday's Washington Post quoted Republican Rep. Zach Wamp of Tennessee, a member who entered Congress as part of the "Contract with America" Class of 1994: "Our leadership and some of our members grew arrogant in their power, and with arrogance comes corruption." Senator John McCain added, "We came to change Washington, and Washington changed us."

The 109th broke by a week the record of the notorious 1948 "Do-Nothing" Congress, managing to convene for a mere 103 days from January 2005 to 5 a.m., last Saturday morning. That's a little more than four days a month.

So indolent have these legislative layabouts been that, last week, when Democratic Majority Leader-Elect Steny Hoyer held a press briefing declaring the new Congress will meet for five whole days a week instead of the current average of 2.5, the reaction from many was shock and dismay.

A few members and some of the reporters who cover them griped like teenagers being told to shovel the walks and clean their rooms. Gauging by the bellyaching, you'd have thought Hoyer had announced that Taco Bell was taking over catering for the House and Senate dining rooms.

Not much was accomplished during the 109th, but there was the usual manic flurry of activity the last couple of days, sort of like those sudden deathbed confessions at the moment of reckoning that keep you from going to Hell.

In the final hours, Congress approved $45 billion in tax cuts, a nuclear cooperation deal with India (despite that country's refusal to sign the nonproliferation treaty), the opening of more than 8 million acres off the Gulf Coast to petroleum and natural gas drilling, an increase in tax-free contributions to health savings accounts that labor believes allows companies to dump more medical costs on workers and a trade bill that many say will take away more American jobs.............. Merry Christmas!

They also managed to fob off nine of eleven spending bills for fiscal year 2007 onto the new guys.

"It's a real act of defiance by the lame-duck Congress and a conscious attempt to set up a political problem for the next Congress," congressional historian Julian Zelizer told the Christian Science Monitor.

----END----

No surprise there, typical Re-THUG-lican arrogance!

The thing I remember about the 109 is in its last day, Cynthia McKenney filed a bill to impeach President Bush, Even Nancy said this would go no where, But McKenney had to waste just a little more taxpayers money before she left.
I bet Cyndy sits at home now and says to her self, Why didn't I wear that pin.

Default You're right Ron.

I hope they can find a suitable place to hide this idiot McKenney back in my home state of "Jawga"!

She was just one more of the reasons why the '109th' should be ashamed of themselves.

Default 109th Congress

Talk to us next year, same time and tell us how much time the 110th Congress spent in session and what they accomplished. Doesn't matter which party controls the Congress, the "Sheeple" always get it in the neck in the end........and the Senators and Congressmen get ever richer.

Default Honorable Veterans & others...

Granted, one of the main DNC Ploys of turning around realities and falsely calling Conservatives EXACTLY what: "Democrats/ Socialists/Leftists posing as Liberals" ACTUALLY ARE,...usually works quite well. After all, state lies and deceit over and over and over or adnauseamly repeat same (the mandatory Democrat attack opposition norm), and many voters actually believe such tripe, unarguable Political Bull or flat-out-lying,...specifically meant for: "Recapturing" political control of America.

Still, this time Dems have gotten even more PERVERTED than usual. Calling Republicans defeated in an election and loosing control of The U.S. Congress as: "109th 'CUT & RUN' Congress",...is as totally absurd A Lie and duplicitous A Role Reversal, as it gets.

Hell, only idiots could possibly believe that Democrat controlled congresses of The Johnson, Carter & Clinton stripe are actually: "The Stay-The-Course" types, and especially during wartime and under attack by Fanatical Islam,...INSTEAD.

Damn,...believing that most Democrat Leaders (past or present) can be counted on for survival, doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense. Nor, should it ever.

Hey,...don't believe me or daily realities?
Then just ask a few Admirals & Generals how honorable, trustworthy and worthwhile they believe Johnson, Carter, Clinton and their style bent congresses proved themselves being for America? Also, why-on-earth think such type politicians still in office have changed now?

Sure, a few military officers purposefully intent climbing The Democrat Political Ladder adamently disagree with differently honest Admirals & Generals, as to what should be done. But, SO WHAT?

Only Admirals & Generals WIN WARS.
Career-Politicians NEVER DO.

Hey ColMurph,

I've tried to say the same exact thing for quite awhile now but probably in a way that nobody can understand unless they wear a tinfoil hat. Regardless, you got that right. So now what are we going to do about it? Do we sit back and watch it happen or do we demand that our representatives actually represent us and not the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about?

Default Hey Recon,

Go back and REread the article!----Are you blind as a bat?

Looks like Republican Rep. Zach Wamp of Tennessee, Republican Senator John McCain AND 'The Christian Science Monitor' ALL disagree with you..............as does MOST of America according to the latest 'poll' numbers!

All this bunch in the '109th' accomplished was to ---

CUT ........TAXES (irresponsibily)

and

RUN ........away from any responsibility and corruption they were guilty of!

What a misguided bunch of piss-ants they were!

Default Gimpy...

Again, thank you very much for Your HELP (actually slips).
As always,...such truly appreciated.

Though, that latest: "CUT ........TAXES (irresponsibily)"
was truly one-helluva orchestrated & canned DNC beauty.
Yeah, sure. Give more money to Big Brother Democrats, and less
to The American Worker/Taxpayer HAVING EARNED SAME.
GET REAL all you Socialist Lords!!!!!!!!!!

Such shows how well American Socialists and similarly cavalier
Ruling Class French Socialists think (actually pompously decree) alike.
Thus, it' no wonder why such American & French type lords are
always quite in tune,...both fiscally & militarily.

I personally will give anyone BIG ODD$ that The French Socialists
consider America's Conservative Republicans and TRUE Patriots
as: "Piss-ants",...ALSO!!! Naturally safe & secure from peasants
and behind closed doors, of course. Such types NEVER like
disclosing TRUE INTENTS, since always quite counter-productive...politically. Plus, Americans just not cut-out for
either socialism or communism, anyway.

Whatever,...remember that "Birds of a feather" don't just: "Flock together".
Such also and self/clique-servingly ABOVE ALL ELSE think alike,
annoyingly & loudly chirp alike, and manuever quite safely alike & scavage,...together.
