Default Hot rounds

I was watching some old VN documentery and this guy was telling how he would drop thousands of M-16 rounds from a chopper in VC areas. These rounds were "hot rounds" that would explode in the gun when fired.
Did anyone ever hear of such a thing.?

Ron

We used to leave a mag of m16 rounds lying around an ambush site with one round packed w/C-4 about 3rd round down.

I, too, have never heard of this. Do like Sid's idea, though.

The used to leave AK-47 rounds that had been re-loded with PETN.......the same stuff in the center of det cord, in VC/NVA controlled areas. After a few weeks the NVA and VC would not use ANY ammo that they found lying around.

A couple of guys from 5th Marines, G-2, would double the load in some ammo and leave on a trail. They heard about the exploding ammo. Never heard if it worked or if they made a habit of doing it.
