This appears to be more of the same deal. As I recall, Hanoi was hitting Pres. Clinton up for war reparations during the state visit a bit ago so this has the earmarks of the same issue. Who better to hit upon than Sen. Kerrey and get the pot stirring again? I would never think of Sen. Kerry like a Col. Oliver North but Hanoi knows the futility of attacking Col. North. Maybe they reckon they can lever US opinion if they hit on a somewhat sympathetic liberal leaning person that just happens to be a US Senator of excellent reputation, values and aspirations. It?s not that Col. North isn?t a good guy as well; it?s just that he?s a tough SOB without a lot of apparent political ambition these times.
Hanoi is so broke they can?t even pay attention, have squeezed all the juice out of the local grape, have screwed over countless number of investors, have a very restless and resentful population, and a horrid world reputation for dirty dealing, corruption and abusiveness. So as I see it, this is a move they will make to grab up some revenue and do their usual woe is me, look at what big bad America did to us.
Besides that, the buggers haven?t paid my invoice of two years ago but keep asking for more services. Well, no tickie, no ronry Nguyen, so sorry about that. Jasus, I have been waiting over three decades to say that back to them. Boy that felt mighty fine and I said it very business like. But ya know what I was thinking don?t ya. As I recall, something about MPC and boom-boom, aarrgg and LOL.
Fair seas, Bill
