Default Colonel Aaron Bank, U.S. Army [ret]

Sid and Murph probably knows this name, but most of the rest of us probably draw a blank. He's known as "The founding father of Special Forces." He served in the OSS in WWII and was the driving force behind forming the Special Forces in the early '50s. He was their first commanding officer. He retired 4yrs. before President Kennedy authorized them to wear a Green Beret in '62. The beret was Bank's idea, to set them apart as an elite unit. His suggestions were black, wine red [maroon], or green. He said Kennedy picked green because he was Irish. Colonel Bank passed away several days ago at his home in Southern California.........He was 101yrs. old! Now, you KNOW this was one tough soldier.

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY, SIR!
