Default Pakistan's Nukes

Pakistan is the only Islamic state with a nuclear arsenal. And there are now concerns about the security of those weapons. In the wake of Benazir Bhutto's assassination there is increasing turmoil.

Peter Galbraith, of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation says one thing is certain:

"It is not a good idea to have 70 nuclear weapons in the hands of a country that is falling apart."

That's a poignant statement that raises an interesting question:

What, if anything, should be done, and by whom?

Your thoughts?

Default To isolate or intervene

To isolate or intervene that is the question:

If we intervene there will be criticism. If something terrible happens then there be criticism that we didn't intervene. No matter what happens the US will be criticized eventually. All the world's problems are the U.S.'s fault, aren't they?
If a Democrat with some more liberal tendancies gets into office and decides that isolation is the best, the conservatives will be all over him if something happens.
If a Republican with somewhat conservative philosophy becomes president and decides to take preventive action, the democrats will be all over him.

Whatever is done is a lose, lose situation at this point. Damned if we do and Damned if we don't.

Default Keith got it right.

Rigger,
Wasn't much that we could do (or did) when The Old Soviet Union with its Vast Arsenal of Nukes fell apart,...thus sameO-sameO can no doubt be expected with Pakistan.

Therefore, and just as hoping Russia's missing or unaccounted for 54 "Suitcase" WMDs (just to mention a few) didn't end up in the quite evil & murderous hands of Fanatical Islamic Nuts, same must be wished for about Pakistan's nuclear weapons.

Know that all such not very reassuring. But, that's just how it is. Typically don't politically order or command The U.S. Military to DESTROY & ANNIHILATE The Enemy and achieve TOTAL VICTORY (as Radical Mulluhs do) and/or order our soldiers to fight Politically-Correct Warfare or insanely without offending ANYONE (even enemy),....and just be prepared to suffer the sad victim consequences as all: "Soft Targets of Opportunity" have in past and will in the future.

Sorry, Folks,...but only American & Allied Forces are NEVER ORDERED to achieve TOTAL VICTORY.

Neil
