Default Time for a Trivia Quiz!

Okay, I wanna find out how much CULTURE we have in these forums.
This quiz deals with the humanities: Literature, Art, Music, and Philosophy.

Keith....you need to do this quiz. Grunts do not need culture. They need to be able to shoot straight and blow up stuff.
Men of the Cloth, however, and ladies and officers need to exhibit some degree of culture and sophistication.

These are not terribly difficult, but I made some of them a little TRICKEY...so, watch your six!!!

Default I'll try

1. Moby Dick, required high school reading.
2. The Mona Lisa, which was stolen and brought to Italy just prior to WWI.
3. Mozart, but I thought he was at least 5 before he started writing music.
4. Decarte, he first wrote I smell therefore I am, but his new girlfriend bought him a bath tub and history changed.
5. I have no clue whatsoever.
6. Arrangement in Gray and Black. No one could remember the name and it was his mother in the painting, thus it's also known by another name.
7. Gershwin, he got into a lot of trouble for Porgy & Bess because it was written for blacks and there was that thing about segregation back then.
8. Plato took time out from his work with Mickey Mouse to develop this form of teaching. The Republic or parts of it were also required reading in high school.
9. Mark Twain, from his days on the river boats.
10. American Gothic, would anyone admit that that couple was related to them?
11. Just don't know.
12. Socrates, who's last words were, "I drank what!"

Stay healthy,
Andy

Post My Quick Guesses

1. Moby Dick
2. "La Giaconda"
3. Mozart
4. Decarte
5. Dracula
6. Arrangement in Gray & Black - Whistler's Mother
7. Gershwin
8. Plato
9. Mark Twain - Samuel Clemmens
10. American Gothic
11. Bach
12. Socrates

Several Guesses "La Giaconda" Must be Italian or Latin.
as Leonardo Da Vinci was Italian

Wasn't sure about Dracula but it rang some kind of bell.

My understanding is: The Bach's were a composing family.

Col Murphy sure did good.

Speaking of culture,

A Navy CPO was trying to teach a few new Lads some math so he discusses calculating the area of various geometric shapes. He gets to calculating the area of a circle and says, ?Lads, the area of a circle is equal to Pi R Square, remember that?. A Texas Lad raises his hand and says, ?No Chief you?re wrong?. Then the Texas Lad offers up, ?Pie are round and cornbread are square?.
