After-effects of the tsunami
It will be very interesting to see how predominantly Muslim countries respond to the immense suffering that many of their brethren have endured as a result of the tsunami. We have already seen the enormous outpouring of monies and material from other nations, along with millions being donated by private corporations in America as well. Since the majority of the victims will be in Indonesia, a Muslim nation, there may well be an outstanding opportunity for some goodwill propaganda to be spread in that region of the world. Kindly note that I don't attach any pejorative connotations to the term 'propaganda'; it's just a brief way of saying how we can positively influence hearts and minds. While dispensing clean water etc., we can also be planting some good words about where all this clean water comes from, and maybe, just maybe, the terrorists will lose some of their recruiting ju-ju.
So far, Ihaven't heard of any $millions be donated by Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates or other Muslim nations, but maybe the news hasn't hit there yet.

Most Christian Denominations
Most of the Denomination is the U.S. are sending impressive aid packages.
Just aid from the churches in America will total in the multiple millions. That might help with the negative image that Bin Laden portrays America and Christianity. Keith |

I heard on one of the news channels that Saudi Arabia donated less than 10 million. I forgot the exact amount.
I also heard that Bill Gates and his wife are giving 3 million EACH. All the donations from the people of this country will be more than many nations will give. BUT hey...we are greedy and stingy. All these oil rich countries, most of which are muslim, are not stingy at all....yeah right! |

No $
Sorry, I don't belive the US should send any money. This is a UN job at best, or a world problem. Very little help came to the US when 4 Huricans hit Florida, and about 10 years ago when Kauai was almost leveled by a huge hurican, They received nothing from outside help. All this money going to people and places that have no accountability, No thanks. I can see a big rip-off comming down the road, and I will say I told you so.
Bill Gates wants to help, Give the money to school systems hear in the US. Its hard for me to feel sorry for someone that build there home on the edge of an ocean, There is a reason there are no 300 year old trees there. Ron |

Sorry to be disagreeable, but asking the UN to something worthwhile is like asking a whore to adopt celibacy. And frankly, I'd put the UN in the same moral level as the comparison lady. We have a splendid opportunity to demonstrate to the world, once again, just how generous we are, not that we're in any contest for world approval, but it will be the upside of our manifestation of our charitable spirit. There will also be a great chance to change some hearts and minds.
Been watching the news ( in addition to watching my splendid Longhorns last night!), but to date, have not heard one word of cash from the Muslim nations. They should be leading the charge in the contribution category, and their relative silence speaks volumes about their true intent.

To Me:
Not to respond to the any human need when you can would be morally wrong.
U.N. Job - Gotta agree with you Super, its a joke at best and should be abolished. Keith |

Seems just a bit ago that the US was taken to task over the starving and ill children of Iraq. This of course was because the US was sticking to the rule of the Oil for food program. And if one rummages about a bit I?d bet we?d find and article from a back issue of the French rag ?La Mond? busily ripping the US over this past situation. Now it seems the crooks at the UN and a few French banks are unwilling to account for a missing $22 billion. For sure, a lot of food and meds for kidos can be bought with $22 billion. With this current tragedy, it?s a good bet that the dorsal fins in the UN pond have broke water and the UN sharks are going into a feeding frenzy, big time. The suffering and helpless will be damn lucky to get a few pennies of relief for every buck given to the UN. Here abouts, the word in the local media is that Japan, Australia and the US are going to join up and go to direct aid rather than through the UN. Our good pals at CNN are ripping Bush a new one whilst throwing rose pedals at the feet of Kofi Annon over this prospect. Plus the supposed luminaries at Le Mond are in the front row of Bush rippers and CNN has given them the mic and spotlight. And don?t count on a lot of recognition from the Moslem world for the good hearts and help provided. I don?t know what the angle will be as yet but in recent times past, this kind of tragedy has been used as proof that ?Allah? is punishing the faithful for being slackers and not taking up arms against the infidel. I expect that angle to play out soon enough in one form or another.

You hit the nail on the head Scout! I hope they publish a list of donator's. I'd like to see what the big money countries are doing in the name of humanity.

Of course the Muslims won't donate anything. Their answer for everything is, "It's God's will!" What a great coverall for a bunch of diaperheads.
