Phillip was the EOD Team commander for that mission, They had completed disarming the first bomb and were packing up their gear when the second bomb was found Johnnie cleared the people out of the area and phillip was going after the robot when the bomb was detonated. Phillip called me that evening and told me what had happened.

Sid, Grandma Moses here, was communicating e-mail with Phillip once in a while before they lost Johnnie. Always wished I had some word to say that would have helped. But sometimes there are just no words. Still have his e-mail printed out and between the pages of the Psalms in my Bible. It was a pleasure to communicate with such a fine and wise young man.

Just had my mind on the loss of Phillip's friend Johnnie while Phillip was in Iraq. Phillip's .mil address and his APO address where I sent him and the other guys a small package is still between the pages of the Psalms in my Bible. I read on the other site where Phillip is suppose to go to A-Stan in March or April of 2010.

Rated "PG" by the Author.
Dedicated to all those who have lost their lives in wars and those who have lost somebody they've loved.

Waving goodbye as he walked down the path,
‘Off on his adventure’ he often would laugh,
But if only he’d known what would happen that day,
When everything changed and he went away.

Listening for news, waiting to hear,
She sat alone consumed by fear,
Would it be him, would he be the one?
Was their life together over and done.

‘’Numerous casualties’’ the news reader said
But was it him, was he dead?
Did he give his life trying to save others,
Looking after his team, his new found brothers.

Then a noise that sent shivers down her spine,
And tears fell as she listened to the voice on the line,
‘’I’m sorry’’ it said ‘’but your husbands gone’’
Time slowed to a stop and right became wrong.

She put down the phone unsure what to do,
She’d have to start again without him, start anew,
There was so much together that could have been
Why was life so harsh , so cruel and so mean.

He’d been deployed far away from his home,
And she sat and wondered if he’d been alone,
Had it hurt, had it been quick
Out like a light, gone with a flick.

He died for his country defending what’s right,
But that was no comfort in the long lonely night,
She wished more than anything to have him back,
Her brave husband solider who died in Iraq.
