Recon Get Together June 21-23
A non-denominational Recon get together is being organized to be held Friday June 21 thru Sunday June 23 in Kansas City. Anyone from any Marine Recon unit past or present is invited to attend. We are also inviting chopper, AO, and fixed wing pilots who stood their watch over any Marine Recon teams in Nam. In order to get a hotel and meeting room set up we need to find out how many are planning on coming. If you are interested in attending please contact Bob Morris at Cayenne6@peoplepc.com

Wives and girlfriends are encouraged to attend. Further details will be posted when everything is organized.

A reunion of Recon personnel from all Recon units during all time periods is going to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, beginning Friday June 21st through Sunday June 23rd.
The Harbor Site hotel is the Holiday Inn, at Kansas City International Airport, 11832 Plaza Circle, Kansas City, Mo 64153, phone number 816.464.2345.
Room rates have been quoted to us at $59.00, +13.6% tax, which works out to about $67.02 per night.
Reservations received after 6/7/02 will be provided on a space available, rate available basis. Our negotiated rate is only valid for reservations made prior to this date.
There is a wedding reception at the hotel on the Saturday night, we have 20 rooms blocked for our function.
As a carrot to get people to register as soon as possible, I will offer two (2) nights lodging free of charge, to one of the first twenty persons who reserve rooms for two nights (Fri & Sat).
To get our specified rates, you must call the hotel direct, and specify that you are attending the "Recon Reunion", get your conf number, and forward it to me at L951@comcast.net , and I will enter you in the contest to get me to pay for your room.
CHECK IN IS 1500HRS (for those in the Airwing that is 3:00pm), CHECK OUT ON SUNDAY IS 1200HRS (12:00pm for Airwing).
The hotel hosts a good BBQ menu at the restaurant, and a pretty good sports bar club, which also serves food, and free salted but non shelled peanuts for our Brothers from the Jimmy Carter states.
We will have a 1000 foot ball room available to us on Friday, Sat during the day, the back room of the restaurant for Sat evening, and the meeting room again on Sunday.
Plan on bringing your photo's from the Nam, or where ever you were.
We have other vets and their wives who have thrown in to assist us with this, I have extended an invitation to Riggers, Air Crews, as well as surviving Marine Raiders, and ParaMarines in the area to come and visit, and hope that they will.
As well as the restaurant and bar, the hotel has a nice pool and a sauna, NO WALRUS'S ARE ALLOWED IN THE HOT TUB, as there is no hot tub, there is however a decent work out room.
For wives or friends, shopping is available at a Mall not far away, and a hotel bus makes the run a couple times a day.
For those who will be flying in, there is no need to rent a car to get to the hotel, a free shuttle from the hotel will pick up and deliver.
If enough are interested we can look into renting a shuttle to go to the Westport area to go to the Kansas City Vietnam Memorial, as well as going to the Liberty Memorial, which is one of the only major WWI memorial's in the US.
Again to get the rates, you can not call the 1.800. numbers, you must call the hotel's number 1.816.464.2345, and you must specify that you are with the "Recon Reunion". Get your Conf number to be in for the free room drawing.
This Reunion is not meant to compete with the Division/Battalion reunion in New York, but is being set up hoping to allow people who can't make New York, an opportunity to meet up with other teammates.
