Default Veteran's Badge

I will post links to the pics and details when I am able to. I know in the States you have a Veterans Badge and you also get to keep your I.D. Cards when you retire from the Armed Forces and this enables you to continue getting discount on many products and services Worldwide, the U.K. once again is following suit in many ways of our Brothers & Sisters across the Pond and a Veterans Badge was slowly introduced over the past couple of years.

About time! especially with current Combat commitments in many places...

I never saw a veteran's badge other than the ruptured duck used after WW2.

Retirees get a special retiree ID card that allows them access to some services.
Some say Walmart is cheaper than the PX.

Anyone enrolled in the VA health system has an ID card as well.

Services there depend on your income or service connected conditions.

Badges? We don't need no steenkeeng badges.

A lot of vets will wear a unit badge or jump wings or other stuff they consider significant.

Thanks Farmboy...

I'm actually at present getting a U.K. Veteran Challenge Coin produced, don't jump down my throat too soon the Coin Sales will be helping "Holidays 4 heroes" a U.K. organisation that helps the Families of our Wounded and Fallen... they are run by a selfless group of individuals, mainly all serving or former U.K. Military, I will post details of the Coin when it is produced, here in the site...

Farmboy, what is the Beret you have as your Avatar, is it the beret & Emblem of your Green Beret?

That's the 5th group flash.
Except for some TDYs from 1st and 7th groups the 5th had SF responsibility in RVN.
Today they are in Kentucky.
I also was in Taining Group, 6th and 7th group.
There are presently some guys making fools out of themelves over this on the VN forum.
In your post I thought you were advocating a badge for vets to wear.
Just having fun. No offense intended.
My experience is most vets like wearing something from their own service-wings, combat badges, etc.

Rgds

Hi Mike,

We have a Veterans Badge that has only been issued over the past couple of years, this is the first of its' kind and was issued in batches over a few months, the batches were a block of years during which time was served i.e. anyone who served between 70 - 82 then 45 - 69 etc.

The idea for the coin will be a Veterans Challenge style coin, just something they can add to their various collection from their military days and maybe even be used to gain discount etc. on various products/services that recognise what the Military do...

When you say Kentucky, are you meaning Ft. Campbell? I worked on a Range there in 2004, great place on the Tennessee/Kentucky border, in fact the northern edge of the range (28) was in Kentucky!

Cheers...
