Angry Warning from Sen. Tammy Duckworth

Sen. Tammy Duckworth warns of troops in 'body bags' due to Trump's reductions in Iraq, Afghanistan
By: Douglas Ernst - The Washington Times - 11-19-20
Re: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news...dy-bags-due-t/

Sen. Tammy Duckworth said President Trump’s decision to reduce troop levels in Iraq and Afghanistan may result in more of them in “body bags.”

The Illinois Democrat, who is also an Iraq War veteran, blasted Mr. Trump for a move that will bring troop levels to 2,500 in both nations by mid-January.

“All of the military commanders have spoken up and say this is the wrong thing to do,” she told reporters Tuesday.

The commander in chief has long said that both conflicts have turned into “endless wars” that he intends to stop.

Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller has been tasked with implementing Mr. Trump’s plan.

“We want our troops home, but let’s not bring them home in body bags,” Ms. Duckworth continued. “And that’s potentially what’s going to happen if this president gets his way and puts his own political timeline ahead of our national security.”

Any deal between the U.S. and Afghanistan aims to have all American troops out of the nation by May 2021.

Iraq War Veteran Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) on Trump's Afghanistan and Iraq troop drawdown:

"All of the military commanders have spoken up and said this is the wrong thing to do. We want our troops home, but let's not bring them home in body bags."

Personal note: If we drawdown troops and the remainder end up being fodder. In the past all drawdown - leaves the remainder of personal short handed and open to an attack.
We've seen this each and every time. Yes we want our troops home but then to sit back and see the people you were protecting slaughtered because we left - leave's a bad taste in your mouth and makes those who made those decisions look like shit! We went in there for a purpose have we lost that purpose? Have we surrendered to the enemy? Years and years of fighting over there - so many wounded and killed. Rule #1 what was you're intent going in there - was it not to save people's lives? You're going to loose people in the process - and it looks bad - or is it just bad judgement? So you pull out and let the bad guys in to butcher the civvies that can't fight back?

Our these American values? Or are our soldier's just fodder? Are we just testing the waters - and when its get bad - we duck and run? You want alias - so you come to their aide - you get your ass kicked now you say we got-ta go! Looking back on your career - It's not going to look good on your military or political records - and then come's re-election - you're going to loose votes and your good cushy paying jobs.

That's what it seems - by pulling out before the job is done - it doesn't look good (or feel good) both on paper. These 3rd world countries are looking for help. Battle after battle in Afghanistan many are wounded - some killed - but how many lives have we saved? Bad guys "are just that bad guys" and they have to go one way or the other. Don't pull out after all we've been through - it's a tough decision but what about our values and commitments. Sure we want to leave - but not to leave because we got our ass kicked - its a dishonor to all those who fought and died there - plus all the wounded they will say I wasted my life - or I was severely wounded - just to watch us be pulled out? If you're not in for the long term - then don't go in!

This is what it feels like to soldier's on the front line. And what about the family members who lost their Son's and Daughter's for a conflict - that just maybe we shouldn't have been involved with? We are not stupid - it's the guys behind the desk those that are calling the shots. Keep politics out of the way and let the General's and Field Commander's go in there and to what they do best (kick-ass) and support them - until the other side - yell's Uncle!

What have we learned from this experience and to what gains? Middle East Peace what a joke - its going to be a hell hole for some time to come. It must be the heat?

As a civvy I worked in Jedda, Saudi Arabia for 7 months for Local 150 out of Chicago on a contract with an outfit - called McKensie Engineering Corp. out of London England - and the heat there was was truly unbearable.
