A great comparison of what you quote here Hardball is that of the American Revolution-vs-French Revolution. The strength of our form of government presupposes an informed, moral, responsible electorate. Unless there is a return to that, I have concerns for well being of our nation.

We're a Republic, not a democracy. They are NOT interchangeable.

To put it correctly, we are a Democratic Republic. Pure Democracy's generally denigrate to chaos when everybody has a hand in governing. What kills Democracy's is when the equivalent of a second grader gets the upper hand because of a plurality, and screws things up because they don't have the knowledge to do what's right or the education to realize what IS right.
