Over 1,300 people were prosecuted for mistreating animals last year. According to the charity this is a rise of 23.5 percent. More than 2,100 pet owners were convicted for cruelty to dogs, a rise of 22 percent according to the report. The RSPCA said the figures have left it facing a funding crisis. The RSPCA wishes to show zero tolerance to animal abusers but admits it can deal only with the number of cases for which it has available officers. The Telegraph reports that one of the published videos tells the story of Lily who was rescued from a house in Tyne and Wear. She had been left to starve with another dog.
