No Man Is An Island
2-23-2018
(For Whom The Bell Tolls) ... any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; “It tolls for thee..” — John Donne, Meditation XVII[a] When John Donne (reportedly) wrote the above words, he could have hardly realized just how quickly, and how often, these words would have been forgotten (or ignored) over the past four hundred or so years. Apparently, when something poignant is far too inconvenient to remember - it is quickly abandoned amidst to the travails of time, convenience and even self-indulgence! Wouldn’t it be grand however, if when “The Chaplain of The Senate” gave his regular invocation, he would also include “John Donne’s Immortal Words” - or are they much too archaic, trite, or even far too painful, for the tastes and vested considerations of “The People’s Government” these days?” “ REMEMBER - THE TRUTH WILL STILL SET YOU FREE!” Hardcore
