Default UPDATE VIDEO AVAILABLE: Coast Guard rescues man stranded on sailboat near Tybee Islan

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew rescued a man Saturday near Tybee Island.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston received a report at 11:39 p.m. Friday that a man was stranded aboard his sailboat in Bull River.

The man was anchored in Bull River, did not request assistance and had no medical emergencies. Coast Guard assets were unable to launch due to inclement weather. Sector Charleston maintained hourly communications with the man.

A Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savanna conducted a fly over of the area Saturday and lowered a rescue swimmer to the vessel and hoisted the man at 9:26 a.m.

The man was taken to Hunter Army Air Field where he is reported to be waiting for his family.
