Lightbulb AFPC "Webinars"

by 1st Lt. Gina Vaccaro McKeen
Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs

12/22/2009 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Air Force Personnel Center officials here launched a series of Web conferences, called Webinars, designed to provide retirement-eligible Airmen the information they need to submit their retirement applications.

"We designed these Webinars to better serve our customers and enable more direct communication between the members and AFPC," said Ann Lacey, the AFPC retirement procedures manager.

"While the virtual (Military Personnel Flight) contains detailed information on the retirement process, members have expressed the desire to communicate directly with us as much as possible," she said.

There are four Webinars in the series that are held on a recurring basis: Retirements-101, for enlisted members; Retirements-101, for officers; Navigating the virtual MPF to submit a retirement application; and "I'm approved for retirement -- Now what?" Members view the Webinars using Defense Connect Online.

The Webinars consists of a 30 to 45 minute briefing followed by a question and answer period. Subject-matter experts will stay on the line until all questions have been answered.

"We hold the Webinars as a courtesy to members to improve communication and make ourselves more available," Ms. Lacey said. "Attending the live sessions will allow Airmen the opportunity to ask questions of the experts and share that information with other attendees."

Ms. Lacey recommended these Webinars for members anticipating retirement, those who are already approved for retirement, and members assigned to military personnel sections.

The briefings will be broadcast on a rotating basis the second Thursday of every month.

The upcoming schedule is as follows:

Jan. 14, 2010 -- "I'm approved for retirement -- Now what?"

Feb. 11, 2010 -- "Retirements-101, for enlisted members"

March 11, 2010 -- "Retirements-101, for officers"

April 8, 2010 -- "Navigating the virtual MPF to submit a retirement application"

To attend these Webinars live follow the link on AFPC's secure "Ask" site. Once the live session is complete, members can view recorded Webinars as long as they have a DCO account. There is a link to the DCO Web site on the page.

For additional retirement information, including step-by-step instructions on how to submit an application, members can visit the vMPF. For answers to any of your personnel questions call the Total Force Service Center toll-free at 800-525-0102 or DSN 665-5000.

Great information. Webinars and conferences that are conducted using web as the communicating medium is the best way to learn new things. Webinars are one of the most effective communication tools of all time.
