The Marines were there to announce Herbert Bungartz' 19-year-old son, Marine PFC Fredrick Willa Bungartz, was missing in action in the Battle of Khe Sanh in Vietnam on Valentine's Day 1968. Three to four weeks later, his body was found and identified.
