Your reply reminded me to keep things in perspective. I remember a time, not that long ago, all my holidays were spent alone. I distinctly remember one Christmas dinner that consisted of raw sliced potatoes because I had nothing to cook them on and they were all I could get. All I had for company were the memories of lost friends and loved ones and the disillusionments of the past. The amazing thing is I had convinced myself that was the way I wanted it. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Now my house stays full of relatives, friends and noisy playing children even when I want to take a nap. lol The aromas of cooking food from the kitchen are so pleasant and intense it makes my mouth hurt. God has provided me with a wife, children, a brand new house ,friends and a return to sanity. Today, just for today, I can't insult Him by being sad. Merry Christmas everyone. Psst. He let me have a new pick up truck too! |

I well remember. In 1966 I spent a few days with the 2nd Bn 35th Inf. We needed a radio relay that was outside the 25ths range. You guys had some tough AO's. I have a close friend at the vet center in Raleigh that was with the 1st of the 35th in 1966-67. He was in a mortar platoon I think. He is a short black guy, 5' 4" C. Small. Small is his last name, I don't want to put his first name on the web. He was badly wounded just before it was time for him to return to the World. We are from the same small hometown. Yes we all still watch each others 6. |

2nd 35th was Cacti Blue
Each Company Had a Mortor Plt. Our AO was usually within 5 miles of the mortors, when we would ventur out past the 5 miles we would be in tuch with what ever artilary units was in the area. Sometime we would have to cut a LZ on some mountan for an Mortor Pit or three. several times these Lz would get hit because they were not protected very well. Those Mortor guys saved or hide more than once. Thank Him for me, will ya. Ron |

Look for the beauty
Enough ugliness and anxiety is placed on us on a daily basis that its hard to take a step back and see what we have to be grateful about.
Turn off the tv and spend time with the family or those who you feel good being around. Do what you like to do. Or just kick back and enjoy being alive--knowing that I can do whenever I want I spent my Christmas morning in Vietnam sitting on a hill watching a very boring leper camp untill >surprise surprise< we sorta decided we had had enough and got creative enough in our sitrep that they evacuated us after us firing off a few mags to give us that convincing cordite smell so sought after for credible after action debriefings. There may be a couple not so verified body counts on the US war record during this period, but thats all--I promise. Cross my heart! We got back in time for the Christmas dinner in the QuiNhon helicopter base mess hall, which, of course, was great. Sorry if this lost the war--only now can the true story be told, thanks to the Freedom of Information act (thanks AGAIN liberals!!) James
