Cool Black And White

You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
"Good night, David; Good night, Chet".
Depending on the channel you tuned
You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.
It felt so good, felt so right.
Life looked better in black and white.
I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys
Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys
Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train
Superman, Jimmy & Lois Lane.
Father Knows Best, Patty Duke
Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too,
Donna Reed on Thursday night--
Life looked better in black and white.
I wanna go back to black and white.
Everything always turned out right.
Simple people, simple lives
Good guys always won the fight.
Now nothing is the way it seems
In living color on the TV screen.
Too many murders, too much fight,
I wanna go back to black and white.
In God they trusted, in bed they slept.
A promise made was a promise kept.
They never cussed or broke their vows.
They'd never make the network now.
But if I could, I'd rather be alive
In a TV town in '55.
It felt so good, felt so right
Life looked better in black and white.
I'd trade all the channels on the satellite
If I could just turn back the clock tonight
To when everybody knew wrong from right
Life was better in black and white

Sempers,

Roger

Some would say that it was a simpler life then but I?m not sure I would agree. As kiddos we built our own toys/play things out of this and that. Fixed our own bicycle flats and kinda of made life up as we went. The 7th wonder of the world was exactly why the stagecoach wheels seen on TV programs went backwards, or so it seemed. TV supplemented imagination and the theater of the mind, not the other way around. Grandpa Mac read stories from books to us kiddos and that was better than any video. I remember Drums Along the Mohawk, Men to Match my Mountains, Con Tiki, Billy Goat Gruff and Song of the South. And yes, now the truth can really be told. Packo is really Brear Fox. It?s a dead give away when he says, ?Well, I spects I?ll have ta skin ya?. LOL

We could pack a rucksack, sleeping bag, and some goodies and bicycle off to a meadow along the Carson River for a camp out and scare the tar out of each other with boogieman stories, pee on the campfire, etc. These days the poor kiddos have the boogieman, in the flesh, grabbing them right out of their bedrooms. It was a different time and a different world in a lot of ways but the complication seemed a lot friendlier.

Some would say that we got our rude awakening during the VN war, perhaps so, but in my opinion bringing up three kiddos in the current era was a heck of a lot more challenging as far as unraveling all the social influences goes. Goodness. One of my kiddos got to obsessively wearing a single white glove around the house and this was some kind of identification thing with someone called Michael Jackson. So I had to figure out who the heck this Jackson guy was. ?Oh man, what hath God wrought?? was my initial reaction to that saga. But not to worry, it only got worse after that until it finally got better. Aarrgg.
