The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher arrived in Piraeus, on Saturday for a scheduled port visit.

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa command says the visit serves “to enhance U.S.-Greece relations as the two allies work together for a stable, secure, and prosperous region.”

The ship’s presence in the Mediterranean Sea is “a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of the region, and Mitscher’s port visit in Piraeus is another demonstration of our view of Greece as a pillar of regional stability,” it adds.

“The people of Greece gave us a very warm reception,” said Cmdr. Ian Scaliatine, commanding officer of Mitscher. “The crew is very excited to explore the history of Athens and learn more about Greek culture. We are looking forward to a great port visit here in Piraeus.”

Liberty in Greece - never been there - have a good time.

O Almighty Lord God, who neither slumberest nor sleepest; Protect and assist, we beseech thee, all those who at home or abroad, by land, by sea, or in the air, are serving this country, that they, being armed with thy defence, may be preserved evermore in all perils; and being filled with wisdom and girded with strength, may do their duty to thy honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
