When I was a kid it was the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees. Not any more! 'Course I was born in New York but I am also a real proud "Damn Yankee" because I ain't goin back. I love the South.
Last week "Awsome Bill Elliot from Dawsonville" came through real close to Gettysburg at Pocono. Heck you Yanks can't even look at the track and ID the shape. Ya'll call it a "Tri-oval." Ain't nuthin oval 'bout it. It's triangular, can't you see? This week Bill comes through again at another Yankee town. The legendary Indy. Look real close at yer behind Yanks! Ain't nuthin past tense 'bout it. The South HAS risen again. Ya'll 'spect that from sumbody that had White Lightning in his DNA. We do know how to make a car go fast even if it's made by CryCo. But ya'll gotta look real close and watch the best of the best. Sit on down and watch the ATLANTA BRAVES. Ain't none better, check the record.

When I lived in Tennessee I was just a short distance from the Bristol motor speedway and on race day it was futile to try to go east as the interstate was chocker blocked for miles. The Bristol race became so popular that the race day crowd overwhelmed the local sewer facilities and there was raw sewage running across the track. But the race went on, wiz and do do a flying and all. What a deal. NASCAR, ya just got to love it. Only a mob of Johnny Rebs would race in caca. Now that?s commitment I?d say.

Good to see Awesome Bill back in the hunt. I reckoned it was just a matter of time before he got that Mopar dialed in, hooked up and gave the Fords and bow ties a run for the loot. I?m always hoping Mark Martin is going to put together a season and grab the cup but not to be thus far. I thought his new sponsor; Viagra, would really put some fire in their boilers but that hasn?t come to pass as yet, oh well. There was an unforgettable bill board just outside Johnson City and it simply read ?Stop by my house before the race. God?. That?s the South, through and through and the charm of it all.

P.S. Story from UNCC. The engineering students were taking their final oral exams and the Prof asked one of the students to give the formula for the area of a circle. The student thought and thought but just couldn?t come up with the answer. So the Prof said the area of a circle is equal to Pi R squared. The student, obviously from North Carolina, blurted out ?No that?s wrong. Pie are round and cornbread are square".
