Electric Strawberry,...
...
...Have a question on the slang for the 25th Tropic lightning,... ...where, and when did the "nickname of the 25th" appear as the term "Electric Stawberry",... ...My friend who is with the 25th said it is derogatory as in, "didn't make it" to the ""Rangers"",... ...

I was in the 25th. It was a term we used for it, not derogatory. It does look like an electric strawberry... LOL ..There were slang names for the 4th, 101st, 1st Cav, and I am sure most others...

I'd have to say that-like most-it came directly from the colored version of the patch and was not derogatory.
Not sure where to find one to post here, bet Larry knows though. |

I first hear it when I was in the 25th. It's because the patch looks like a strawberry and the lightning bolt makes it electric.

Not a derogatory term
Very common to refer to the 25th as the electric Strawberry and the 9th as the psycodelic (sp) cookie.

Some info for ya'll on the 25th's shoulder patch:
The patch represents a red taro leaf with stem up, surrounded by a yellow border, enclosing a yellow lightning flash. The taro is a tropical plant and the leaf is indicative of the origin of the 25th Infantry Division in the Hawaiian Islands. The 25th was originally headquartered at Schoffield Barracks, Hawaii. During WW2 the 25th ID became noted for its very rapid advances against the Japanese from campaign to campaign, and that is represented by the lightning flash. Steve / 82Rigger |

No disrespect intended but I remember hearing the 25th called Saigon Electric. The Big Red One, was called the Bloody Red One and probably others I didn't hear. When I was with the 4th ID it was called the famous funny fuc#ed up fourth. The 173rd was called the flying butter knife, the 101st was called the puking buzzard, I think the 9th was called the flaming assholes or something like that. But lets face it folks we all did our jobs while with these units, and I am now sure as hell proud to be have been a straight leg grunt with C-1/22 inf "Regulars by God" with the 4ID. And I sure all of you are just a proud of the units you served in.

Question: What unit's patch was known as "the leaning outhouse"? (Had an off-center arrow pointing up from the bottom).
