Glad hearing about ANY friend pretty-much: "Acing" ANY test.
Still, and in no way whatsoever disparaging helpful Boats being of assistance, I was truly surprised with your having 42 months (as military recognized) in a Combat Area,............ even having to ask ANYONE about hell. I figure you already recognized & survived many aspects of so-called: "Hell" first hand,... and for quite some time to-boot. Stay Well, Stay Lucky & keep: "Acing" those tests.  Neil

Sheol is Hebrew OT for the realm of the spirits of dead men.
Hades is Greek NT for the realm of the spirits of dead men. They are one in the same, the Jews believed all men went to Sheol. the Greeks believed all men went to Hades. Jesus gives us the first window to understand Hades/Sheol in Lk.16:19ff There is a place for the righteous, Abraham's bosom and a place for the wicked, torment. Jesus calls Abraham's bosom Paradise in Lk.23:43; Jesus takes Paradise to heaven when He ascends Eph.4:8 taking captivity captive. No one could go to heaven until Jesus first went with His blood. Heb.9:11ff So now the OT Righteous are in heaven as we see in Heb.12:22ff Rev.4:1ff Christians when they die can now enter heaven as well. Rev.6:9-11; Paul calls heaven the 3rd heaven, he also calls it Paradise 2Cor.12:1-4; So now, if you die and your saved its Heaven bound, if not its Hades bound. The Greeks also teach there is a pit below Hades and they called it the Abyss. Peter calls it Tartarus in 2Pe.2:4 (not hell) where only fallen angels are cast. Come judgment day, the wicked are then cast into GHENNA - HELL the eternal destiny of wicked men with immortal bodies and angels too.
