Soldier On Leave Slams 'Vietnam-Era' Body Armor

National Guard Member Says Substandard Flak Jackets Won't Stop Bullet POSTED: 10:41 a.m. EST November 12, 2003 UPDATED: 10:45 a.m. EST November 12, 2003 WARETOWN, N.J. -- A soldier back home on 15-day leave from Iraq says troops' lives are being endangered by substandard body armor. Spc. Joseph Fabozzi, a member of the New Jersey National Guard, said before he left Iraq that he was asked to sign an agreement not to talk about the problem. But he has, granting an interview to the Asbury Park Press. Fabozzi said Vietnam-era flak jackets still being used by thousands of the troops will stop a knife but not a bullet. Fabozzi said he supports President George W. Bush and the... U.S. and friendly nation laws prohibit fully reproducing copyrighted material.
