Default PRIDE AND HUMILIATION

Pride a powerful force

Thomas Friedman my favorite columnist at the New York Time had a
powerful column today that need to be compulsory reading to all
Americans, especially Vietnamese Americans AKA Boat People.

The article was "Wounded Pride a Powerful force in Iraq"

Commenting on Dr Mahathir Muhammad's speech to the Arab League in
which Mahathir claimed that Humiliation in the hands of the West was
the main cause of Muslim decline. Instead of using their brain to
learn science and technology to beat the West at their own game, the
Muslim World was drowned in emotion and despair of being humiliated.
Some resorted to terrorist acts believing that this will cure them of
their humiliation but they only made it worse. Mahathir who brought
Malaysia to the threshold of economical take off knew about the
enormous potentials of the Muslim World who had dominated a large part
of the World for many centuries.

" Why We did not get cheers and acclaims when we liberated the Iraqi
from Saddam's torture chamber. Perhaps, Friedman mused, because many
Iraqis felt humiliated that they did not liberate themselves.

Today if you were to visit Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, you can
feel the confidence the people in these countries possess in regard to
their ability to beat the White Man at his own game of economical
development. They are anything but humiliated.

Vietnam had shed the mantle of humiliation when She succeeded in
gaining independence under the guidance of Uncle Ho by defeating, or
at least stopping three World Powers in their design but a new form of
humiliation had taken place of the old humiliation of being colonized
and un-free. This is the humiliation of being poor.

Since Doimoi, I believe that the Vietnamese wanted to get rid of the
humiliation of being poor and I believe that this is an irresistible
force the VCP could not reverse. Eventually humiliation will cease
when Vietnamese cease being poor. Freedom will inevitably ensue.

All of us should help them to get out of poverty by cheering every
bits of progress they achieved at home.

Only when the Vietnamese at home cease to be humiliated of being poor
that we will be rid of same humiliation ourselves.

Default Re: PRIDE AND HUMILIATION

Get rid of the dumb VC savages, then the people Vietnam will get out
of poverty, hopelessness, destitution, humiliation....

Get rid of the stupid, self-serving cowards who keep defending the
VC's abysmal failures and abhorrent abuses, like EL DUMB JERK, then
Vietnam will get a lot better.
