Sort of a related subject. I purchased about 10 British books in one lot thru eBay recently and about half of them were military related. Since they were from the English perspective on the "War of the Rebellion" and "The War of 1812" ( they hardly mentioned 1812 - 14 here at all..I guess because they got their asses kick for the 2nd time in less than 30 years !! ), you would be surprised at the dearth of info about each and some of the remarks about us and our soldiers...Of course, they consider British miltary history to have started in 1066 ( about 950 years ago ), and at one time the "sun never set on the British Empire."...so we were kind of a speed-bump and they still think of us as "Colonials".......If you like to read a lot, eBay is a good place to go..instead of paying retail at Alibris or Amazon.com...eBay has a good search engine too....

Andy,

Yep, its on Page 5 of the General Forum. Look under the column marked "Thread Starter". It's under revwardoc and is titled "A disguise idea rejected by Saddam Hussein".

I'll have to find that book. It seems he's the only one who claims to have proof.

MD,
A member of my Rev War re-enactment regiment is from England and states basically the same thing about English military history. He says that when he went to school over there, they had volumes of text books about English history every year and in America we get one, and we're lucky if we finish it during a school year! And the American Rev War (they call it the rebellion of the American colonies) and the War of 1812 are basically footnotes. Ironically, they made the same mistake in both wars, they captured our capitol (Philadelphia and Washington, DC respectively) and thought they had won the war. You'd think they would've learned. And thanks for the tip about Ebay.
