Arrow Navy searches for sailor who went overboard in Arabian Sea

Navy searches for sailor who went overboard in Arabian Sea
By: Russ Read - WashingtonExaminer - 7-18-19
RE: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/p...in-arabian-sea

Navy ships in the Arabian Sea are engaged in search and rescue operation for a sailor who was reported overboard on Wednesday, according to Navy officials.

The sailor, whose name is being withheld by the Navy for privacy reasons, was a member of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. The Spanish Mendez Nunez frigate and the Pakistani PSN Aslat are also participating in the search and rescue operation.

The Lincoln carrier strike group was deployed to the Arabian Sea last month in response to rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

We don't know the sailors name or division reports will be updated as the Navy provides them.

About the Red Sea:

The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia. The connection to the ocean is in the south through the Bab el Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden. To the north lie the Sinai Peninsula, the Gulf of Aqaba, and the Gulf of Suez (leading to the Suez Canal). The Red Sea is a Global 200 ecoregion. The sea is underlain by the Red Sea Rift which is part of the Great Rift Valley.

The Red Sea has a surface area of roughly 438,000 km2 (169,100 mi2),[1][2] is about 2250 km (1398 mi) long and, at its widest point, 355 km (220.6 mi) wide. It has a maximum depth of 3,040 m (9,970 ft) in the central Suakin Trough,[3] and an average depth of 490 m (1,608 ft). However, there are also extensive shallow shelves, noted for their marine life and corals. The sea is the habitat of over 1,000 invertebrate species, and 200 soft and hard corals. It is the world's northernmost tropical sea.

Not knowing exactly where he went overboard - I wondered what the current Red Sea temperature is and what about deadly fish:

As of December 2010, scientists are investigating the attacks and have identified, but not verified, several possible causes including over-fishing which causes large sharks to hunt closer to shore, tourist boat operators who chum offshore for shark-photo opportunities, and reports of ships throwing dead livestock overboard.

Personal note: If I hear more - I will advise. Meanwhile let's hope the guy is still floating and can be found quickly. A fall from a carrier is quite high if he wasn't knocked unconscious he may still have a chance of being found. We will say a prayer for him knowing he will be found safe.

We don't know if he was blown overboard or was doing maintenance on the ship at the time he went missing. The Navy is pretty good at getting information out regarding missing sailors.

Default Latest update of US Navy man overboard

BY: SANYA MANSOOR - TIME - 4:06 PM EDT

A search and rescue mission is currently underway for an American sailor who went overboard in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday, Navy officials confirmed in a statement Thursday.

The sailor’s identity has not been revealed, but the sailor’s status is listed as “Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown” after a “reported man overboard incident” onboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, according to the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is receiving assistance in the search from a Pakistan Navy ship and a Spanish frigate, the statement also revealed.

The man overboard incident comes amid recent tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

Will post more when some new news comes in. Let's hope they find this sailor?
