West Hills bids farewell to memorial

LEMOORE - The Vietnam Veterans "Moving Wall" memorial wrapped up its
weeklong visit to West Hills College Lemoore in a solemn, tear-evoking
closing ceremony Saturday.

Set on the grass quad of the campus, the wall - a half-sized traveling
replica of the monument in Washington D.C. - received an unceasing
stream of visitors throughout the week. The flow of visitors continued
Saturday as it stood as a backdrop to the ceremony to mark the end of
the display. Capt. Vincent Shorts, commander of Strike Fighter Wing,
U.S. Pacific Fleet, reminded people of how deep a scar was left in the
American psyche by Vietnam War.

"Other than the Civil Rights movement, no other issue in the recent
history has polarized the people of the United States as much as the
