Default Major Carl R Erickson

Hi All
My Dad passed away this morning at 83. Those of you that have read this thread "Dirty Thirty" know he hasn't been well for awhile but at least he was home.

Now I need some help as I need to write an obituary.

I have his 214 here and of course it's full of codes that I do not know so if you can help here goes.

Under medals etc. it reads like this:
AM SOGB 125 DAF 64 ACM WWIIVM AFLSA w/4 OLG AFRESM NDSM w/1 BSS GCM VSM W/1 BSS RVCM HGD

Also under "Education and Training" one course I do not know "compl-1966/CFAMIL CRSE"

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you Dave

Dave,

My condolences to you and your family. It sounds like he had quite a career.

Here are some of the medals and decorations:

AM - Air Medal
WWII VM - World War II Victory Medal
ACM - American Campaign Medal
AFLSA - Air Force Longevity Service Medal
AFRESM - Air Force Reserve Service Medal w/ 4 Oak Leaf Clusters
NDSM - National Defense Service with 1 Star
GCM - Good Conduct Medal
VSM - Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Star
RVCM - Republic of Vietnam Service Medal

Not sure of the others.

Covan

Thank you so much I really appreciate.
The Air medal he is actually owed he figures 8 more.

Don't know if you know but I believe he is also owed a new medal that came out for everyone that was in Korea after the war up till about 63?

It's also interesting I found a form AF 11 ? that shows Foreign service for Korea & Vietnam, but 214 only shows Vietnam?

Again Thank you Dave

Dave,

What you might want to do is re-request a copy of his records. Use an SF-180. Obtainable at:

http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html

Sometimes awards are given after the original DD-214 and a DD-215 is issued.

Happened to me. I found I had awards issued that I never knew about.

Good Luck.

Default Obituary

I hope this works. I'm posting the obit that I wrote. We will be having a full military funeral complete with military pall bearers, bugler, gun salute and bag pipes. I almost got a "missing man" but the group that does them can only do week ends.

Dave
Ps David if you can fix for best viewing would really appreciate!
