I was going through some of my fathers stuff and found some pictures. This one is of his brother Jack Farnie. In the late 1930?s when it looked apparent that England would have to go to war with Germany, my father and his four brothers left the United States to volunteer for service in Great Britain?s armed forces. One joined the Royal Navy and the other three joined the army. My father tried to join also but was turned down by the Royal Navy because two of the fingers of his left hand were cutoff at the first joint. He was a carpenter and losing fingers was an occupational hazard. My uncle Jack fought at Dunkirk where he was wounded in the eye and hand. Uncle Jack had joined the British Army when he was only 16. He was with the East Lancashire Regiment serving in B Company under Capt. H.M. Ervine ? Andrews who was awarded the VC for the same action at Dunkirk.

2 comments Bill Farnie Sat, 05 Nov 2005 16:48:29 -0800 Final Assault Hamburger H http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=15754

by: Bill Farnie

Description: Photo that belonged to COL(R) Joseph B. E-7 Ron Kane was awarded a Silver Star for his actions on Hill 996 on July 11, 1969; however, Ron was wounded and hospitalized, and the Army sent him his Silver Star in the mail after he returned home, so Ron was unable to participate in the official ceremony where he would have been pinned with the Silver Star by his CO. The Delta Company veterans attending the Reunion were determined to rectify this situation.
