I was going through some of my fathers stuff and found some pictures. This one is of his brother Jack Farnie. In the late 1930?s when it looked apparent that England would have to go to war with Germany, my father and his four brothers left the United States to volunteer for service in Great Britain?s armed forces. One joined the Royal Navy and the other three joined the army. My father tried to join also but was turned down by the Royal Navy because two of the fingers of his left hand were cutoff at the first joint. He was a carpenter and losing fingers was an occupational hazard. My uncle Jack fought at Dunkirk where he was wounded in the eye and hand. Uncle Jack had joined the British Army when he was only 16. He was with the East Lancashire Regiment serving in B Company under Capt. H.M. Ervine ? Andrews who was awarded the VC for the same action at Dunkirk. <br /><br />2 comments Bill Farnie Sat, 05 Nov 2005 16:48:29 -0800 RAF personnel at Normandy http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=15032 <a href="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=15032" target="_blank"><img title="7424raf_wwii_normandy.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/data/562/thumbs/7424raf_wwii_normandy.jpg" alt="7424raf_wwii_normandy.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: Matzos Matzos Wed, 03 Aug 2005 02:41:04 -0700 Alfred Garrett http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10364 <a href="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10364" target="_blank"><img title="4534grandpa.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/data/562/thumbs/4534grandpa.jpg" alt="4534grandpa.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: melody1181<br /><br />Description: My grandpa taking a break.<br /><br />1 comment melody1181 Wed, 14 Apr 2004 11:18:06 -0700 WWII POW ARTICLE - PAUL D http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=8826 <a href="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=8826" target="_blank"><img title="4333grandpa_stein_post_article.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/data/562/thumbs/4333grandpa_stein_post_article.jpg" alt="4333grandpa_stein_post_article.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: Nam_Angel<br /><br />Description: Article Written About Paul Daniel Stein - WWII POW and Member of The Lost Batallion.<br /><br />1 comment Nam_Angel Thu, 10 Jul 2003 18:46:28 -0700 Aircraft spotter on the r http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1199 <a href="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1199" target="_blank"><img title="2ww284_thumb.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.patriotfiles.com/gallery/data/562/thumbs/2ww284_thumb.jpg" alt="2ww284_thumb.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: David<br /><br />Description: Aircraft spotter on the roof of a building in London.
