Sergeant Major of the Arm

Sergeant Major of the Army Jack Tilley shares a laugh with Elmer Taylor, a 79-year-old World War II veteran, in Vancouver, WA, Nov. 7, 2002. Taylor, who quit school to join the Navy during in 1942, received his high school diploma after more than 60 years Nov. 7. He is the first Washington veteran to receive his diploma under a new state law. The law allows veterans whose high school completion was interrupted by military service to receive their diplomas. Tilley met with Taylor during a visit to his hometown of Vancouver last week. He also spoke to students at Fort Vancouver High School where he graduated in 1966

Sailors attending Naval A

Sailors attending Naval Air Technical Training Center learn the basic and advanced skills necessary to maintain various aircraft and equipment systems used throughout the fleet. The facility has state of the art training facilities similar to a typical college campus environment. The center graduates approximately 15,000 Navy and Marine students yearly. The largest part of this student body is comprised of enlisted personnel attending "A" schools designed to provide them with the knowledge and skill levels required to perform as technicians at the third class petty officer level. Students at the Aviation

Students at the Aviation Rescue Swimmer School spend hours in the pool learning techniques to recover downed flight crew and personnel who may have fallen overboard at sea. The physically demanding course of instruction lasts four weeks. Prior to Rescue Swimmer School, each candidate must successfully complete four weeks at the Navy?s Naval Air Crewman Candidate School after which they are designatred Navy flight crew members.
