Travnik, Bosnia and Herce

Travnik, Bosnia and Hercegovina: A Federation Army Unexploded Ordnance trainee approaches an unexploded mortar shell under the watchful eyes of an SFOR instructor. The soldier and his colleagues were taking part in a two-week course given at the de-mining school in Travnik. The course aimed to compensate for the lack of training in UXO disposal when the Entity Armed Forces teams were given their basic de-mining training. There will be a further two courses conducted at the end of July in Banja Luka and in Mostar. According to 2Lt Emma Sharp of HQ SFOR Engineers, about one third of the devices the EAF teams find while de-mining are unexploded ordnance and their inability to deal with them has hampered their mission. This course will allow them to assess risks, take appropriate action and dispose of the devices safely.
