USS Thetis, a 97.6 ton (displacement) section patrol vessel, was built at Neponset, Massachusetts, in 1901 as a civilian steam yacht. Purchased by the Navy in June 1917 for World War I service, she was placed in commission in July of that year and thereafter served in southern New England waters. Thetis was decommissioned after the conflict's end and stricken from the Navy list in March 1919. She was sold in July 1920.
